Jim Stewart – Founder and CEO
 
After leading several companies as Board Member, CEO, and President, Jim wanted to build an advisory practice to share his knowledge and deep operating experience in both turnaround and high-growth environments. With this passion, Jim founded Executive Smarts to provide strategic and operational advice to CEOs, senior leaders and other corporate stakeholders in the middle market. Jim is a frequent speaker and panelist and the author of many articles on accountability, leadership, and process improvement.  Prior to founding Executive Smarts, Jim developed a strong track record in all phases of revenue growth, operational turnarounds, corporate restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions for private and public international corporations and private equity firms. Edwin Beall – Partner

Prior to joining Executive Smarts, Edwin was COO and board advisor for an aerospace manufacturer, and previously held senior operations positions in manufacturing and distribution companies. Edwin has built a strong reputation in supply chain optimization, global sourcing, operational turnarounds, M&A integration, process improvements and lean operations. Edwin’s industry experience is complimented with several years of senior level consulting experience managing client engagements to deliver strategic business solutions for energy, aerospace and defense, non-profit, automotive, and consumer products companies. Edwin is a graduate of Texas A&M University.

Michael Lanham – Principal

Michael has worked as President, CEO, and COO in the Telecom, VOIP, Internet, e-commerce and security fields. He has been involved in four start-ups, with two resulting in IPO’s. Michael managed the transition of another company from a “shared tenant provider” of telephone services, to being a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) in four states. He has raised significant capital to finance the companies he managed through private equity, bank debt and IPO’s. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration degree from Southern Methodist University.

Jim Potter – Principal

Jim is a proven business leader with a successful track record of delivering strong profit gains, substantial cost reductions and sustainable improvements. As President, CEO and COO of several companies, Jim has earned a reputation for establishing and sustaining excellence in diverse organizations and industries. Utilizing his people centered management system; Jim successfully completed three turnarounds and improved both the operational and financial performance of every company that he has served. His reputation for ethical standards and integrity-based practices is an invaluable client benefit and earns him the trust and respect of all he serves. Jim is a graduate of Texas Tech University and SMU’s Dispute Resolution program.

J. Wayne Stewart - Principal

Prior to joining Executive Smarts, Wayne was CEO and Chairman of a restaurant development company and founder and Principal of Stewart Consulting Company. He sits on the Boards of two technology companies headquartered in the Dallas area. His career began at Texas Instruments, in Operations and General Management in its Baldrige award winning Defense and Information Technology Business Groups. He subsequently was Executive Vice President of Operations for a semi-conductor capital equipment company and Vice President of Corporate Operations for a telecommunications equipment and services business. His areas of expertise are operations, strategic planning and development, corporate facilities and real estate, operational excellence, and M&A. Craig Horner - Senior Associate

Prior to joining Executive Smarts, Craig held senior level supply chain management positions of large, diverse multi-site distribution companies with a strong focus in logistics, distribution channels and purchasing. Craig has extensive experience in supply chain strategies, business process improvements, inventory management, and software selections and implementations. His experience includes government agencies, and public and privately held companies. Craig is graduate of Shippensburg University with Bachelor of Science and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania. He is an active member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) and Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC).

Thomas L. Longmire - Senior Associate

Prior to associating with Executive Smarts, Tom provided executive consulting services to diverse industry and public clients, including petroleum, publishing, public schools, and electronics industries. Tom enjoyed a rewarding career in industry, working for leaders such as Texas Instruments, Allied Signal, and FSI International. Tom is a senior examiner for the Texas Award for Performance Excellence, as well as DOD’s Commander’s Cup Award. He has a degree in Industrial Technology from Texas A&M Commerce, and an MBA from the University of Dallas.

Bill Baker

Bill Baker was Knowledge Management & Benchmarking Champion for Raytheon from 1998-2004. He was responsible for implementation of Benchmarking and Knowledge Management activities throughout the company and integrating them in Raytheon Six Sigma™. Raytheon received the 2003 MAKE (Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise) Finalist Designation, was designated a 2004 North American Winner and recently recognized as the overall 2005 North American Winner. Prior experience includes lean manufacturing implementation in various missile and night vision programs at both Texas Instruments and Raytheon. He currently is a Shingo Prize Examiner and specializes in Lean manufacturing aspects. Bill coauthored, along with Michael English, Winning the Knowledge Transfer Race: Using Your Company’s Knowledge Assets to Get ahead of the Competition, published in October 2005 by McGraw-Hill. He was Chairman of the 2005 Association of Manufacturing Excellence (AME) International Conference in Boston October 31 through November 4, 2005 with over 1500 attendees and it was the most profitable event yet for AME.  Complete Bio

Bill Bentley

Bill Bentley is a seasoned leader of technology organizations. Armed with his Masters degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer, Bill entered the world of manufacturing out of college as a control systems engineer with Procter & Gamble. He spent the next two decades in increasingly responsible roles with P&G, Frito-Lay and Nabisco Brands doing process engineering, automation, instrumentation and process R&D in a variety of consumer products settings including food, paper and pharmaceuticals. Bill brings three decades of technology and business experience, with Fortune 100 and small company exposure. He has done two successful business turnarounds, has managed teams of hundreds of people and been responsible for budgets up to $100 million. He is an active volunteer in his community and has graduated over 700 Six Sigma Green and Black Belts and Lean Enterprise students from eleven states and is an authorized Black Belt training provider for Fulton County, GA.  Complete Bio

Laura Longmire

Laura Longmire is a nationally known expert in quality systems, lean manufacturing, benchmarking, and knowledge management. She has worked extensively with companies and institutions such as Texas Instruments, Clarke American, KPMG Peat Marwick, the American Productivity and Quality Center (APQC), and the Stupski Foundation to assist in their quality improvement and operational excellence strategies, including assessments, applications, and award of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA). She is a certified Baldrige and Texas Quality Award examiner and judge, DoD Judge and Examiner for the President’s Award, Chair for the Judges panel for the Quality Texas Foundation, ASQ Benchmarking Competency Board Chairman, and examiner for the APQC Annual Best Practices in Benchmarking Award. She is in demand as an author, speaker, and lecturer on quality and operational improvement, and she has testified before Congress on Business Process Reengineering, Performance Measurements and Benchmarking for improvements in Federal Agencies. Laura is co-author of the book Benchmarking for Best Practices in the Public Sector.
